Smelling across the tundra

Waking up this morning was easy...it was so cold that jumping out of bed a putting more cothes on was the only viable option. Still it coud have been worse, at least our little heater worked. Over in Morten and Berit's cabin, their heater did not work at all and they barely slept at all. Apparently, Berit woke up at 6 am and spent the morning re-packing their suitcase in a futile attempt at keeping warm.

The cold conditions and distance to the shower block meant that we did not shower this morning. But since we were only driving through Finnmarksvidda to Kaoutokeino and then through Finland it didn't really matter if we were smelly!

Perhaps unsurprisingly, today was the only day so far when we were actaully ready to leave early!

We stopped just outside Karasjok for breakfast only to find that the bread had not fully thawed out, but by now we were hardened travellers and ate it anyway!

Driving accross the tundra from Karasjok to Kautokeino the temperature kept fluctuating between 5 and 6 degrees.

Again there were plenty of Santa's little helpers along the way and taking pictures of them, or anything indeed whilst you're driving along, is not always easy. Berit and AH are now experts in taking pictures of bushes:

and Morten's an expert in taking pictures of reindeer bums.

After a few hours we reached Kautokeino, local name Guovdageaidnu.
