The Plan

We fly out to Oslo tomorrow evening where we are spending a couple of days seeing friends and family and planning the week long epic drive to the North Eastern most tip of the country (where it borders with Russia).

At this stage, i think that we are planning to leave on the Sunday and skip through most of central Norway (albeit potentially side tracking to visit the mighty Sognefjord; Norway's longest and deepest fjord) to spend a bit more time north of the Arctic Circle, where I gather the terrain is so inhospitable that there are no trains!

Our crusie ship, the M/S Midnatsol (translated as Midnight Sun) departs from Kirkenes (just 16kms from the Russian border) at 13.30 on Sunday, 19 June and we alight at Trondheim (Norway's third largest city) in the morning of Thursday 23 June...I'm so excited just thinking about it. We have also booked a number of activities along the cruise; we are having breakfast at the North Cape (Europe's northernmost point), attending a midnight concert at the Arctic Cathedral in Tromso, going on a sea eagle safari and touring around the Lofoten Islands...I can't wait.

We then spend a couple of days coming back down to earth in Trondheim before driving back down to Oslo. We return back to the UK, and reality, on the evening of Thursday 30 June.
