The Midnight Sun

Apparently the Arctic Circle is an imaginary line drawn round the earth at latitude 66.5 degrees north. This line represents the latitude at which, on the summer solstice, the sun will never make it below the horizon; even at midnight - hence the midnight sun. The druids would have had a field day!

Anyway, the further north beyond the Arctic Circle you travel, the more days before and after the summer solstice experience the midnight sun. A cursory glance at an atlas (or possible google maps) will show that approximately half of Norway is above the Arctic Circle and so we'll be basking in the midnight sun, suncream at the ready!

We'll have our cameras on standby and be hoping we'll get some sleep, we hear the northerners put blankets in front of their windows in the summer to block the sun out. If not, there is a 24 hour bar service! Huzzah!
