Despite our whole day of driving, various distractions (mainly the Sami and their reindeer) meant that we did not arrive in Alta until quite late in the day. So much so that our intended hotel was fully booked.
Some frantic phone calls later revealed that, rather improbably, there were no spare hotel rooms in the entire town. The only option appeared to be a camp site out of town. We were perhaps a tad sceptical since the standard of camping huts varies a lot.
Luckily we were given two large wooden cabins with a bedroom, kitchen and bathroom. We were very impressed! Our neighbours were a bunch of party loving geology students. The nice man in the reception made us food to take to the cabins and he adviced us to take the last part of our journey to Kirkenes through Finland, as it is much quicker. We decided to take his advice. But before that we still have Alta and Finnmarksvidda (the Finnmaark plateau) to explore!
Weather update: 21 degrees.
Curtain update: decent.
Mosquito concentration: rising.
